Steven Y. Wong is the Director and Senior Curator at the Vincent Price Art Museum. He has lectured at the University of California Santa Barbara and was an adjunct professor at Ventura College and Pasadena City College in Art, Asian American Studies, and History departments respectively.
I was born in the City of Angels at Queen of Angels Hospital, a place that no longer exists. My identity is fluid and contextual. I am a father, partner, artist, curator, educator, non-profit worker, and a fighter for social justice. I am a minority and a majority. I am an Angelinx, a Californian, and an American. I am oppressed, and I am privileged. I am a product of Western imperialism and the result of the Chinese diaspora. I am the sum of everything that came before me. I agitate and subvert power structures; mostly as a means of social justice and resistance, but sometimes just for fun. I’ve been curating for almost a decade, and have been making art three times longer.
